- Apples - Use any dessert eating apple, such as gala apples or Braeburn Apples.
- Chopped walnuts - Walnut adds a delicious crunch to the dessert.
- Cheddar Cheese - A sharp cheese is nice or use your favourite cheese.
- Butter - Butter helps to make the dessert flavourful and adds to its texture.
- Honey - thick or runny honey is fine. Use the best flavour that you can.
- Seasonings - Cinnamon and vanilla extract add flavour to the dish.
- Avocado oil - to brush over the apple dessert with tortillas before baking them. Any flavourless oil is fine.
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 400 °F. Grind 3 peeled apples and dice one peeled apple into small pieces.
Step 1: Place all the apples in a hot skillet over medium heat. Add to it butter, honey, and cinnamon. Cook them until the apples are soft and caramelized and all the liquid vaporizes.
Step 2: Turn off the heat, add vanilla extract, and mix. At this point, taste to customize the sweetness.
Step 3: Take each tortilla and fill it with caramelized, seasoned cooked apples (apple mixture).
Step 4: Add a layer of cheese and chopped walnuts over the cooked apples. To close it nicely, use some water or a mix of water and flour to create a paste which you rub around the edge of the tortillas. Grab the side of the tortillas and fold over them (turn over) to create a crescent shape.
Step 5: Lay each Apple Tortilla inside a baking dish and brush each one with a little avocado oil or oil of your choice. This helps the apple dessert with tortillas crisp up better.
Step 6: Place them uncovered on the oven's middle rack and bake them until golden brown, and the cheese has melted. Garnish them with more walnuts and cinnamon. Let them cool and ENJOY!
Tips and Faqs
- It is better to peel the apples. This helps to achieve a creamy consistency.
- If you have time, pan-toast the walnuts to add a nutty flavor.
- Only a small amount of cheese was used. Use more cheese if you like.
- Always taste test for the sweetness and adjust to your liking.
- Add your favorite spices and herbs.
- You can use egg yok instead of oil for more golden brown color.
- Instead of a crescent shape, you may roll up the tortillas and wrap them around the apples.
- Double the recipe or make it ahead for your next gathering.
Make sure to caramelize the apples well to vaporize all the liquid.
Brush them with egg yolk or some oil before baking.
Bake them uncovered at 400 °F.
Take a kitchen towel or paper towel, damp it with water, and wrap the tortillas inside. Then, place the wrapped tortillas in a hot oven or microwave for a few seconds (15- 30 seconds). Steam gets created, and moist softens the tortillas. Or you can water each tortilla with a damp kitchen towel.
