    What is a slushie?

Slushie is a drink that is semi-frozen and you make it with crushed ice mixed with sweet fruits/juices.

What's the difference between a smoothie and a slushie?

Smoothie is thicker and made with a blend of milk or yogurt with fruits/juices. But, Slushie is an ice-based drink made with fruits/ juices.

How to pick a sweet pineapple?

The sweet ones smell sweet on the bottom and the leaves on top are green and healthy and come out easily. Also, it is yellow in color and it is not super hard when squeezed. Ultimately, make sure it is heavy for its size.

    Ingredients

    • Pineapple. I used store-bought frozen pineapple. All ingredients frozen result in a better pineapple slushie overall to serve right away. You can cut a fresh pineapple into small cubes and freeze them yourself. Please read more about the variations and substitutions in the post below.
    • Ice. To make that cool slushie texture.
    • Orange Juice. I used fresh juice from medium-sized orange. Orange juice helps with the blending process and goes well with pineapple. You may use pineapple juice or water instead.
    • Agave nectar. This is optional in case you want more sweetness and your pineapple is not as ripe and sweet as should be. Mine was sweet enough. So I only drizzled some agave nectar over the slushie when I served it. You may use sugar or honey instead.

How to make pineapple slushie at home (step by step)

Step 1. Mix the ingredients. Place frozen pineapple into a blender (I used an immersion blender) and add to it ice cubes and orange juice. Stick to a 2:1 ratio of pineapple to ice. You can always add more ice if needed and if the slushie looks watery to you!

    Ingredients are put together.

Step 2. Pulse them. Then set the blender to high speed and pulse the ingredients a few times until the ice and pineapple are crushed to the desired consistency. If the slushie sticks to the sides, scrap it. You do not want to overly smooth the slushie. Otherwise, it will melt quickly while serving it.

    Ready to blend them away!

Step 3. Serve it. Taste it and adjust for the sweetness and texture you like and serve it immediately. Enjoy!

    Blended and garnished with honey.
